Jaxon - Month Three

My sweet Jax,

While you only been here three months, you are already changing so much!  You are an incredibly happy and easy baby!  Now that you have learned how to smile, your gummy grin is a permanent fixture on your face.  I love and adore you more than you will ever know!!  Here are some new things about you this month:

*I couldn't remember where I had put the camera after our camping trip, so most of the pictures taken this month were from my camera phone, so the quality isn't that great.  Sorry!

  • You are an extremely happy baby and you smile all the time - including to Mommy (who had to wait a little longer than Daddy to be the recipient of your sweet smile, but it was worth it!).
My happy boy!
  • You outgrew your first bath and had to get a second one, but it didn't work too well, either.  You kept sliding over the hump in the tub, so it wasn't very comfortable for you.
New tub
  • You have discovered your voice and make the sweetest cooing noises.
11 weeks + 3 days
  • You began sleeping through the night!!!  Woo hoo!!!  From 9:00 p.m. - 9:00 a.m. every day.  You can't make it past 9:00 p.m.  It's so cute, 9:00 p.m. seems to be the magic number for you, because you will pass out if I try to keep you up any later.
Gavin adores being a big brother!
Nap time with Daddy
  • You still hate car rides, which makes it a pretty stressful drive for all those stuck in the car with ya!
Hmmm... Guess you didn't want your picture taken with Uncle and Erick?
  • At your 3-month check-up, you weighed 13 pounds.  Hooray!  That's almost double your birth weight.
My strong little guy!
  • You are great at holding your head up when you are on your tummy.  The doctor even commented that you are very strong.
These past three months have flown by and you are becoming such a big boy!  Daddy is doing great taking care of you and Gavin during the day while I work and he is enjoying having that time with you and Gav.  But, it has been hard for me to be away from you because I miss you so much!!  Although it is also good for me to go back to work, because I have to admit that I was getting far too comfortable wearing pajamas all day and just spending the day snuggling with you.  I'm so very grateful to be your mommy and I am so proud of you for all the new things you have accomplished already!

I love you to pieces, Jax!

Gavin the Football Player

We signed Gavin up for flag football through our local parks and rec.  The season started in early October and was scheduled to go about 6 weeks.  It included kids ages 3-4.  Unfortunately, there weren't enough kids signed up at our local park (which is at the end of my street), so he had to join a team from another park that was a few miles away.  He actually missed the first two practices and had to meet his team mates at their first game.  It was absolutely the cutest thing though!!  All these tiny kids running around the field!

They had practice twice a week and I figured that it must take a lot of patience to coach a team of 3 and 4 year olds to play any sport.  Just keeping their attention takes incredible skill.

First Family Camping Trip

Matt's parents invited us to spend the weekend camping with them in the San Bernardino mountains when Jax was 9-1/2 weeks old.  We had never gone camping together (other than river trips) and figured it would be a great experience for the whole family.  We arrived late on Friday night and it was absolutely freezing!  I quickly bundled the kids up and got them ready for bed.

It was freezing!
Jax did really well overnight, only waking up a couple of times to nurse and then going right back to sleep.  The next morning we woke up to the crisp, cool mountain air and prepared to spend the day fishing at the local lake.  I have never fished and didn't plan to start, but Gavin was excited about it and even got his very own Spiderman fishing pole for the occasion.

I love his silhouette

Even though he looked absolutely adorable, Gavin said that the vest was a little heavy, so he let Grandma wear it.  Then, the three of them got ready to go catch some fish!

Everyone took a short break since the fish weren't biting.  Gavin ate some lunch while Matt and his mom got in some quick cuddles with Jaxon.

After taking a quick break, Matt, his mom, and Gavin returned to do a little more fishing.  Within minutes, Matt's mom came running back for her camera and excitedly telling me that Gavin had caught a fish!  We ran back down to the pier and tried to get Gavin to pose with his prize before we let it go, but he did not want to hold the pole at all with the fish on it.  So, Matt held the pole while Gavin stood beside it.  He was so proud of himself for being the only one to catch a fish that day.  I think it's an experience he'll remember for a long time.

After we returned to the campsite for some dinner and s'mores, my poor Jaxon was just about ready to call it a day.  I guess camping wears him out!

The next day, the boys enjoyed the outdoors for a bit before we headed home.  It was a wonderful trip and we can't wait to go camping again!

Jaxon - Month Two

My sweet Jax,

You are such a sweet baby!  I can't believe how fast the time is going.  I was so very sad to have to return to work when you were just 8 weeks.  With Gavin, I got to stay home for 5-1/2 months, but unfortunately, I only got the designated 8 weeks with you.  My heart was so heavy to leave you on that first day, but I knew that you would be in good hands with Daddy and Gavin.  With that being said, here are a few new things about you in month two:

  • You absolutely HATE car rides.  Just like Gavin.  For some reason you both hated car rides as newborns.  You cry every time we travel anywhere.  I'm hoping you grow out of this soon as well.
The only time you are not crying in the car is when you are sleeping...
  • You continue to wake up throughout the night (but I'm hoping this will end soon).
5 weeks + 1 day
Baby feet - the cutest feet in the world!!
Cuddling with Daddy 5 weeks + 4 days
  • You gave your first sweet smile to Daddy at 5-1/2 weeks!  (The first smile to Mommy took a little longer - thanks a lot, kiddo!)
6 weeks - You were not really thrilled about the photo idea
  • At your 6 week appointment, you weighed 11 pounds, 16 ounces and were wearing size 0-3 months.
7 weeks + 3 days
  • You had your first pictures with Mommy (other than those taken at the hospital) at 7 weeks and 3 days.  I realized that I am always behind the camera and rarely remember to ask other people to take my picture with you (or anyone else).
7 weeks + 6 days
  • I continued to try and take the weekly photos, but it never went quite right.  The picture above was supposed to be your 7 week shot, taken at 7 weeks and 6 days.  I guess I figured as long as it was before 8 weeks, it still counted.  Hee hee...
Not too into the play mat
  • You tried out Gavin's play mat, but were not nearly as into it as Gavin used to be.  Although you look a lot like your big brother and you both detested car rides as infants, this was one of the first signs that you were going to be interested in different things than Gavin.
8 weeks + 5 days
We are truly so thankful to have two wonderful sons.  I had dreamt about meeting you for the nine months that you were growing in my belly and now that you are here, my heart is so full!  I love you so very much, Jaxon Matthew!  I can't wait to see what the future holds for you!

I love you to pieces!
